It has become very apparent that Manchester United are interested in signing Aaron Wan-Bissaka, with Crystal Palace turning down a £40m bid for the 21-year-old from the Red Devils earlier this month, according to Sky Sports.
That is unlikely to end conversations between the two clubs, though, as Manchester United prepare to make a second offer (also per Sky Sports) while Crystal Palace are said to be keen on Scott McTominay.
The Sun (via TEAMtalk) reports that the Eagles are ready to make a move for the Scotland international if he is not guaranteed game time at Old Trafford this upcoming season and, all things considered, it could prove to be a very smart move.
A move that is absolutely necessary? Perhaps not. Crystal Palace already have midfielders quite similar to McTominay.
The likes of Luka Milivojevic and James McArthur are hard workers in the engine room, who add a lot of defensive stability to this Crystal Palace side. McTominay, likewise, has offered Manchester United an aggressiveness and tenacity in the middle of the park, with his former manager Jose Mourinho describing him as a “mad dog” after a 1-0 quarter-final defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League.
But with someone like McArthur turning 32 this year, there is certainly room for him to join and make a big impact now and in the future. He’s defensively sound and he even managed to contribute in the final third towards the end of the last season, grabbing a goal against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Huddersfield Town.
And based on the above, he looks perfect for a Roy Hodgson side who do favour a 4-4-2 and put a lot of work into the defensive side of things.
Ultimately, bringing McTominay to Selhurst Park has the potential to be very smart business.
