Leeds United fans on Twitter seemingly aren’t huge fans of the latest Elland Road trend.
If you’ve watched any Leeds games recently either at the stadium or on TV, you’ll know exactly what we’re talking about. Of course, it’s the new chant sweeping west Yorkshire at the moment.
It’s a very simple chant as the supporters sing ‘don’t you know pump it up, the Whites are going up’ to the tune of Danzel’s hit single ‘Pump It Up!’.
There’s something to be said about using one of the worst songs of the 2000s as inspiration for your football chant, but the responses on Twitter do a good enough job of explaining everything wrong with it.
Supporters on social media aren’t happy with the chant for a plethora of reasons, one of which being that they believe it is far too early to be singing about promotion.
To be fair, these fans are absolutely right to be wary of any of these songs, they haven’t forgotten last season’s ‘Leeds are going up’ chant to the tune of KC and the Sunshine Band’s ‘Give It Up’ as well as the infamous ‘Stop crying Frank Lampard’ that came back to bite supporters in the end.
Others simply hate the chant due to the fact that it’s a bit cringeworthy and unoriginal.
Again, this is a fair point, it doesn’t take a genius to come up with this as a chant, and it has to be said that paying tribute to a rather dreadful dance track from 2004 is a bit naff.
The only thing you can credit the song with is being catchy, and if you’re at the stadium it’s impossible to not join in once it gets going.
Some fans absolutely hate the song, but they’re more than happy to join in with the rest of the fanbase with getting involved in it.
