The season hasn’t even begun yet but Leeds have already been dealt a major blow.
On Wednesday, it was confirmed that forward Kemar Roofe would miss the next four weeks of action after sustaining an injury against Western Sydney Wanderers.
For a player who finished as their top scorer last season, it’s a bitter pill to swallow with the Championship campaign getting underway in under a week.
And with his injury, they’ve now got a major problem in attack and have thrust a huge burden on the shoulders of one man.
On the chalkboard
With a matter of days to go before the term, Marcelo Bielsa already has a stark lack of options.
After losing Pontus Jansson there appears to be slim cover in defence whilst they now have issues going forward too.
At the moment, his only really viable option up top is Patrick Bamford. That’s unless, of course, they choose to go with the inexperience of Ryan Edmondson.
If you consider that, however, Bamford now has an enormous burden to overcome.
After Roofe’s injury, he is the first choice striker and faces a start to the campaign that simply has to be better than it was in 2018/19.
Last season, he only scored nine goals after missing 20 matches through injury himself. To slap the expectation on him now to solely grab the goals will be a challenge.
After all, his fitness issues last term were a huge concern, scoring just once before December.

As Leeds kick start a new campaign where anything but promotion will be a failure, the burden of what’s been put on the former Middlesbrough man is colossal.
Based on his pre-season performances too, he could find life difficult.
The 25-year-old has missed simple opportunities, especially against Manchester United in Australia and he will simply have to improve if Leeds want to start well.
But this burden has also come about because of the naivety in ignoring the recruitment of a new striker.
All in all, this summer has felt like somewhat of a mess, and Roofe’s injury tops it off.
