Mohamed Elneny appears to be nothing more than a squad player in Unai Emery’s Arsenal setup and the door might open for him to make a move away from the Emirates soon.
Arsenal seem to be actively plotting for a new midfielder to replace Aaron Ramsey and are eyeing the January transfer window to already make an addition. But the sale of Elneny could be important to who the Gunners get as they would like to cash in on the Egyptian in order to make a relatively big bid for Ramsey’s replacement.
The situation should, however, be closely monitored by West Ham United, who could really do with a midfielder like Elneny at the moment. Manuel Pellegrini has had his fair share of midfield woes this season with Carlos Sanchez and Manuel Lanzini not expected to return to training until the new year, while Jack Wilshere could be back in action next week after being on the sidelines for more than two months.
Offering Elneny a way out of Arsenal in January could be potentially beneficial for the Hammers if Pellegrini manages to get the best out of him.
The former Basel man has not made a singular Premier League appearance this season, while he only has three Europa League and one League Cup start to brag about. A recent hamstring injury has also added more frustration to his season and could a new club be highly rewarding for him.
At West Ham, he’ll undoubtedly get more minutes to his name and would be just the player Pellegrini needs to keep the midfield together and offer defensive cover for the backs.
The Chilean has had a lot variation in the midfield so far this season in terms of formation and combinations, with Declan Rice mainly occupying the defensive midfield role. The 19-year-old has shown promising signs but doesn’t have that killer instinct that Elneny possesses.
