da blaze casino: The agent of Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen has told Tuttomercato that his client is content with life in London.
What’s the word?
da dobrowin: The Belgian international is believed to have been tracked by Inter Milan ahead of this summer’s transfer window.
Vertonghen’s representative Tom de Mul has played down the speculation, though, claiming that the centre-back intends to stay at Spurs.
He told Tuttomercato:
“He is happy in London. He’s playing as a top performer in a top team and is certainly happy.”
Vertonghen, who joined the North London outfit from Ajax in 2012, is tied down to the club until 2019 after signing a new contract in December of last year.
Should Vertonghen consider his options?
It makes the most sense for the defender and Tottenham to keep the situation as it is.
Vertonghen has had his injury problems, but he has formed a solid partnership with Toby Alderweireld, helping the club keep the most clean sheets in the Premier League (17).
Once again, Spurs fell at the final hurdle in their title pursuit, so if they want to take that step further, they need to add to their team rather than lose personnel.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men failed to get out the group stage in this season’s Champions League, so they will be determined to last longer in the 2017-18 campaign.
From Vertonghen’s point of view, he has cemented a first-team spot at Tottenham and will marshall the defence in major competitions, so there is no need for him to go elsewhere.
