According to Sky Sports, Liverpool’s Harry Wilson is on the radars of Southampton, Newcastle and Brighton, who have all been greatly impressed by the 22-year-old’s exploits while on loan at Derby in 2018/19, while Crystal Palace could also enter the race if Wilfried Zaha departs.
It’s clear that the Saints need some strength in depth out wide, with Nathan Redmond the only reliable option on the wing, while Wilson under Ralph Hasenhuttl seems like a match made in heaven.
What’s the word?
Well, Sky Sports report that the Reds will demand up to £25m for the Welshman’s services this summer should any of the aforementioned clubs approach to sign him permanently – a handsome fee for a player with only one Premier League appearance under his belt.
The Wrexham-born starlet netted 18 goals and chalked up six assists for the Rams across all competitions and looks certain to be playing top flight football next term – Frank Lampard’s side, who are surely interested in bringing him to Pride Park for a second loan spell, are potentially just 90 minutes away from promotion themselves of course.
At £25m, Wilson presents a reasonable amount of risk to any potential buyer but, considering the way in which the former RB Leipzig boss has got the very best out of the likes of Yan Valery and Jan Bednarek, there’s no better place for the talented winger to be than under Hasenhuttl’s wing.
Harry and Hasenhuttl
The Austrian manager has got the Saints playing much-improved football to that which his predecessor had and has, more importantly, transformed those who were floundering under Mark Hughes into stars; the aforementioned Bednarek, Valery and Redmond have all been excellent since Hasenhuttl took the reins.
Remember Fraser Forster? No? Well he’s still a Southampton player on 80k-a-week! How can have revive his career? Check out the video below…
At 22, Wilson has plenty of room to grow but is already showing outstanding quality – he’d have to be crazy to choose any of the other clubs over Southampton, where he will surely become a huge fan-favourite in no time and undoubtedly fulfil his potential under a manager who loves dynamic, attacking players.
